Psychoeducational Assessments

Dr. Henderson offers psychoeducational assessments to children, adolescents, and adults.

Dr. Henderson holds a doctorate in school psychology. School psychologists are expertly trained to understand the learning process, to assess a student's developing academic and cognitive skills, and to pull all of this information together to create a plan for the student that optimizes his or her chances for success.

How it Works

Intake For a full psychoeducational assessment, Dr. Henderson will begin by scheduling a parent session. During this adult-only interview parents will have an opportunity to share information about their concerns and their child’s history.

Assessment Next, Dr. Henderson will meet with the student for 4 and 6 hours of direct assessment time. Assessment time is typically scheduled across two sessions.

Report Once the direct assessment time is complete, Dr. Henderson will then take 2-3 weeks to complete a written report documenting the assessment results and presenting pertinent recommendations.

Debrief When the report is complete, parents are invited to a debrief session. During this session Dr. Henderson will review the assessment outcomes and details of the report. Following the parent debrief, the student may be invited for their own debrief session to help the student understand his/her own learning profile.

A psychoeducational assessment may be recommended for many reasons including:

  • difficulties learning at school, college, or university
  • signs of "giftedness"
  • concerns regarding child development
  • behavioral challenges at school
  • concerns that a student’s full potential is not being realized in the classroom
  • the need for "accommodations" in the classroom and for exams
  • questions regarding ideal school placement or programming

For the adult student, the intake and debrief session is available to the student and any of his/her identified supports (family, friends, involved professionals).

Consultation After the debrief is completed, Dr. Henderson is available to liaise with educators in schools and post-secondary settings to communicate the assessment outcomes as well as be part of program planning and support implementation.
